Mill Cottage is situated centrally in Tuckenhay with
a breath-taking view across the valley and high up the steep
fell opposite which is usually studded with sheep.
Bow Creek is only 250 metres away along the winding road
and the first of the two public houses, the inviting Maltsters
Arms, only another 50 metres. The Watermans Arms is a further
400 metres along the bank of the creek and both are recommended
for their food.
The cottage has been totally renovated over a 12-month period
and now boasts extremely comfortable bed and breakfast accommodation
with some luxurious touches.
Polished wood floors abound in all but the kitchen –
which is stone – and exposed beams are much in evidence.
Hidden lighting adds to the relaxing experience and state-of-the-art
bathrooms complete the picture along with soft and comfortable
beds made up with crisp cotton bedding.
The accomodation comprises two double bedrooms, one of which
also has a large single bed. Both rooms are fully en-suite
and have views across the valley.
On the ground floor is a welcoming sitting room with soft
couches, a wood-burning stove and television if you want to
chill out after the day’s exertions.
Breakfast is the final part of the experience.
Barry and Lorna, your hosts and chef, offer such delights
as home-made muesli, kedgeree and local smoked cod fishcakes,
as well as a full Devonian grill which is not for the faint-hearted.
Healthier options are also available. All ingredients are
locally sourced wherever possible and you can even order a
packed lunch if required.
Unfortunately the cottage does not cater for pets.
